The Urban Fitness Klub Family Service Organization, (UFK), is a non-profit company currently seeking a 501c3 status. We are “Friends of” Detroit Catholic Pastoral Alliance (DCPA).
The 501c3 organization has a long standing commitment in the revitalization of the Gratiot Woods district. This includes: newly renovated homes, a senior living center, and a bakery at the corner of Gratiot and McClellan, occupied by the Capuchins Soup Kitchen, just to name a few.
In the middle of this brick and mortar revitalization there will be a new resurgence of education with the UFK. The UFK exists to raise funds for the Dads Love 2 Read Program and other strengthening programs for the family.
The Dads Love 2 Read program was designed for our K thru 4th graders to get them the daily reading practice that is needed to succeed in life. UFK began in 2006, and the Dads Love 2 Read program is in its third year at
Wayne Elementary School on Detroit’s eastside.
Dads Love 2 Read students meet Monday thru Thursday. The children arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of school for reading fun. Currently, the program is looking to expand into to three new schools. When the program began in Wayne Elementary, the school was classified as an Emerging school by the Skillman Foundation. Just this year the improvements were so great, that it is now been classified as High Performing school.
