The Dads Love 2 Read Students had a great time competing against each other to see whose plan would fly the farthest.

The students had to following instructions on how to make a paper airplane. Giving them experience in reading, comprehension, and application.

The Dads Love 2 Read Program is proud to announce that we have expanded our program into another school.

Starting Jan 25, 2010 Dads Love 2 Read will be in Blackwell Middle School located at 9330 Shoemaker Street Detroit, Michigan. On Jan. 25th we will have movie night and on the 26th the reading program starts.

The President’s Corner

Our board president, Richard Plowden, has spent almost 30 years of his life involved with our community’s youth in Metro Detroit. His career path has added positive life growth to hundreds of our kids. As a 5 time World Martial Arts Champion, Mr. Plowden has cultivated this mental and physical toughness approach to enhance lives. His Martial Arts enrichment approach to life is not only present in his martial arts academy classes, but he has moved this philosophy of mental toughness to his kids in martial arts for, Kids Kicking Cancer, and he has successfully implemented this approach of self control to help young ones deal with anger. We are pleased that he has included this approach to our Dads Love 2 Read Program. This is his outlook on the program to date.

In a world of video games and technology we are literally in a fight for the imaginations of our children.  Youth today are captivated not necessarily by what is good for them, but by what they define as ‘fun’.

The format of the Dads Love 2 Read (DL2R) Program has bridged the gap between learning and fun by creating a dynamic environment.  This environment infuses the necessity of developing fantastic reading skills, with the adventure of being exposed to new things, and a true team atmosphere.  New adventures, camaraderie and fun are elements conducive to a positive learning model.

The success of the program, entering its third year, validates the commitment of DL2R to educate young people, one page at a time.
